In Loco Parentis - by Andrew Murtagh
In Loco Parentis - by Andrew Murtagh
Recollections of a public school housemaster.
A former professional cricketer, Andrew Murtagh came to Malvern College to teach English and to run the cricket. He intended to stay only a couple of years but remained in post for thirty. "Malvern is like that," he observed, "It seeps into your blood." He took over House No7 and the following nine years provided him with great professional satisfaction as well as rich material for this book. He then moved to No5 to open the new day House, where he remained for a further nine years. He is thus unique in the College's recent history for being appointed housemaster of two Houses. On his retirement from teaching, he has taken up his third career as an author and biographer. He has had seven books published, with two more scheduled to be printed in the near future. He has not strayed far from College grounds; together with his wife, he now lives in nearby Hanley Swan.
